The best ringette players in Canada are coming to Prince Edward Island from April 7 to 13 as part of the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships and we still need volunteers.

Six arenas located in the greater Charlottetown area and in Summerside will host 186 games that will declare a Canadian champion at the U16, U19, and National Ringette League levels.

The host organizing committee, which is made up of members from all five of the the local ringette associations on PEI, has been busy preparing for the 43 off-Island teams that will start arriving on Friday, April 5.

“This is a huge event that will see 43 teams travel to PEI and stay here for at least eight days,” said Mike James, one of the tournament’s co-chairs. “There also are more than 75 officials, shot clock operators, and Ringette Canada staff attending to bring the total number of participants to around 1000 people. And that doesn’t include the spectators who are traveling to PEI to watch the teams compete. This event will have a major impact, and we’re excited to show off our Island hospitality.”

Tournament passes are available in advance at all Credit Unions across PEI, and are currently at the early bird rate of $100 (until April 4). The tournament pass allows admission to any of the 186 games as well as the Opening Ceremony and Skills Competition. Tournament passes and day passes will be available at the door once the event begins.

With a little more than a week to go until the event begins, volunteer recruitment is still underway. There are a number of volunteer opportunities still available for minor officials such as timers, scorekeepers, announcers, and for front-of-house positions such as ticket sellers/ ticket takers and information desk/security volunteers.
