Charlottetown, PEI (January 11, 2019)—Co-chairs François Caron and Michael James of the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships announced today that the Credit Unions of PEI are the title sponsor for the national event, April 7–13. The 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships (CRC) will determine the Canadian champions in the U16, U19, and National Ringette League categories.

The announcement was held at the Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown with the Charlottetown Ringette Tournament, which takes place all weekend, as the backdrop.

“We are so excited to welcome the Credit Unions of PEI as title sponsor for the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships,” said Caron. “The Credit Unions have a strong relationship with sport and community on PEI, and to receive this level of support towards a national event, which will have long-lasting effects for ringette across the province, is tremendous. We can’t thank them enough for coming on board.”

Credit Unions of PEI Manager of Marketing and Communications David Chapman said, “Today’s announcement of our partnership with the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships underlines the commitment that the Credit Unions of PEI has to improve the communities we serve. We are very pleased to support this national ringette competition as we know it will build awareness on PEI and inspire many more Island children to participate in this fast-growing sport.”

The organizing committee also acknowledged support from the Government of Prince Edward Island and the cities of Charlottetown and Summerside.

“As a province we are pleased to have a long history of supporting our provincial sports organizations, and hosting national and international sporting competition,” said Health and Wellness Minister Robert Mitchell. “Sport provides an amazing opportunity to grow and learn. By hosting events like this, we are helping to inspire future generations of athletes and encouraging healthy lifestyles for all Islanders.”

“The City of Charlottetown is thrilled to support and co-host this high-profile event with our neighbours in Summerside,” said Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. “The Championships have grown significantly in both size and scope since they were last held in Charlottetown in 2009 and are sure to bring much economic and tourism prosperity to our city during the shoulder tourism season.”

“Summerside is extremely honoured to be selected as co-host of the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships,” added Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart. “We are pleased to support this event that will showcase the sport of ringette and have tremendous economic and social benefits for our city and region. We are pleased to welcome both athletes and fans to our community.”

Ringette Canada announced in 2017 that the 2019 CRC had been awarded to Ringette PEI in partnership with the five local associations of Charlottetown, Montague, Rustico, Souris, and Summerside. The event will be held in four venues in Charlottetown and Summerside: Bell Aliant Centre, Pownal Sports Centre, APM Centre, and Credit Union Place.

Tickets go on sale later in January. For more information about the championships, visit; follow @CRC_CCR on Twitter and Instagram; or like us on Facebook @CanadianRingetteChampionships.

About the Canadian Ringette Championships

First held in 1979 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Canadian Ringette Championships, along with the Canada Winter Games, showcases the very best that the sport has to offer. The tournament, staged each year by Ringette Canada in a different host community, provides athletes with the opportunity to compete at the elite level, encourages sportsmanship and interprovincial goodwill, and increases the visibility of ringette across the country. The 2019 event will be the 41st national championships for the sport and represents the second time that Prince Edward Island has hosted, with Charlottetown having first hosted the event in 2009.
